So many people think that they need to go to the dentist to get their teeth cleaned and to fix up those darn cavities that may have developed over time. But did you know these other top 5 reasons to go to the dentist?

1. You suffer from REALLY bad breath (otherwise known as halitosis)
Sometimes bad breath can be linked to something as simple as having a piece of food stuck between your teeth or in your gum tissue. Sometimes it can be caused by having untreated cavities. And sometimes it is a more complex reason, such as a sinus infection, diabetes, or an issue with your liver or kidneys. If you suffer from bad breath you should definitely see your dentist to rule out any oral issues that may be causing it.

2. To get screened for Oral Cancer.
Did you know that (according to the Oral Cancer Foundation) one person every hour dies from oral cancer? When you come to the dentist for a cleaning and check up, the hygienist and dentist are able to screen you for oral cancer, which if found early is very treatable!

3. To Prevent Gum Disease.
Gum disease is no joke!! It has been linked to heart disease, strokes, pancreatic cancer and more. Getting in to see the hygienist to clean your teeth can prevent gum disease (because they have the tools to get that tarter and calculus build up that happens over time, which infects the gum tissue). If caught early on, it is very treatable and won’t lead to all those bad things! Maintaining good oral health can help reduce your risk of serious health issues!

4. To improve your self-esteem and confidence.
When you meet someone new, don’t you agree that the first thing you notice is their smile? Your smile is typically your most prominent facial feature. Making your smile bright and healthy can do wonders for your self-esteem! Our dental office can remove plaque that you can’t get to, recommend whitening treatments, fix cavities etc that will make you feel like your smile is beautiful!!

5. It’s affordable to visit your dentist if they offer payment arrangements.
Going to the dentist does not need to be a burden on your personal finances. At Rice Creek Dental we except most insurance plans. For patients who do not have insurance we work with them too. We are more than willing to make a financial plan with you so that you can achieve the best level of oral health you can have. We offer 4, 8 and 12 month financing options! Please don’t hesitate to ask about this service!

I cannot believe we’re already into Fall, and Winter is around the corner! This picture is from Kathy, one of our hygienists, up North by her shack a few weeks ago. While we may not be ready for snow, its a great reminder that the year is almost over and its time to consider using your dental insurance benefits that are remaining for this year. If you’re looking for a new dentist, give us a call to schedule an appointment so that we can help you maximize your remaining dental insurance benefits.

We’re only a few days away from the Team Millie Benefit at Jimmy’s in Vadnais Heights, this Sunday, May 4th from 3-8 PM.

Millie is our “little” cousin who’s been showing cancer who’s boss for about a year. She will still be doing treatments for the next year and a half and this benefit will help their family with the cost of those treatments. We have over 200 baskets for the silent auction and many other opportunities to help. Check out her website for more information. Hope to see you all Sunday!

What a creative way to get kids to relax about test taking!

While my kids loved the movie Frozen, they didn’t play “Let It Go” so many times that I can’t enjoy this parody. It was nice of Mother Nature to cooperate and give the teachers a snowy day, which wasn’t to hard this year. While it looks like winter outside today, Spring has to be around the corner!

Lilacs In Bloom
The lilacs are in bloom in the office and outside the office!

One of our patients tells us why his favorite flower is the Lilac: He smelled their sweet fragrance before he was born!

Born in May, his mother used to smell the blooming flowers from the lilac bushes through the kitchen window of their home while she was pregnant with him.
